Hey everyone! I’m trying out a Thread where you can reply, and we can all chat in casual conversation. It’s June, which marks 6 mos of low-buying. Are you feeling the pull to buy things as the heat picks up? Are you tempted to douse yourself in $500 perfume? What summer purchases (or not) are you making and/or struggling with?
Myself, I am trying not to buy an unnecessary, yet adorable, small percolator/teapot that’s marketed for camping. Would love to know what yours is!
ahhh, maybe this will help me let it go! I've been trying to resist buying a lavender linen dress. Why do I need another dress and another purple piece in my wardrobe? But I don't have any linen dresses! Maybe it will feel really nice in these reoccurring heat waves and super breezy. I got close to getting one on eBay but my offer was countered. I guess that's a good thing! Trying to actually wear the dresses I already have while the weather calls for it!
Thank you for sharing, Jody!! Let me tell you, I do not even wear dresses, really, and I have seen linen dresses or other linen outfits and thought to myself, “Will this give me that breezy casual vibe?” They are, I think, having a seasonal moment. I do have a set of linen sheets that I love. I can’t say with any certainty that you shouldn’t buy it, but I think the idea of wearing what you have is a great one. In my personal case, as a sweaty person, I know that I will sweat pretty much regardless of what I’m wearing, linen or no. (That being said, I may buy a linen shirt eventually, when I feel I need a new item in my wardrobe. But for now, I just sweat in what I already own.)
Oh, I'm so pleased I found your Substack and this piece in particular. After being relatively frugal for the last few months I suddenly find myself wanting to buy all the things now that summer is here. I've spent an age decluttering my house though so the last thing I want to do is to start filling it back up again.
Hi Louise! Excited to have a fellow knitter in the fold. I totally understand that! I think summer can be energizing, which is great, but it can totally trigger a shopping urge for lots of people–especially with all of the marketing out there!

Hahah thanks for relating! I agree they're trending! +1 for sweating these details in something waiting for me in my closet!
You can do it!! :)

Absolutely, it makes it a lot harder to say no.
