I have had a similar experience to you in that I found doing something I really enjoy (journaling, reading, cooking, etc) or just doing SOMETHING really helps with feeling a bit down because of the time of year.

Yes! I think having something physical, especially (like writing by hand) or a task that requires focus can be really good for positive distraction from feelings when they get to be too much/not helpful. Glad you've also got coping mechanisms to deal with the doldrums!
